Really? That sign faces Hwy 72? I love it. I am SO tired of materialistic Christmas that I'm ready to call Dec 25th "Xmas" and celebrate "CHRISTmas" on a different day, such as June 25th! What would retail businesses do if all Christians did that?

Pastor Zach,
I learned a lot from your sermon last night, such as why the different things I've read about the gifts have confused me--the authors I read are from different camps! Your personal conclusions seem to have sanctified common-sense, as Grudem said.

I have noticed that opposing sides in theological debates often impose human-like consistency on God at the expense of His sovereignty and other perfections, and at the expense of His purpose. Cessationist vs. Charismatic seems to be another of these cases.

This list is an excellent test for selfishness as scripture defines it. The many manifestations of selfishness are the greatest problems in marriages: many many spouses are rivals, seek their own good and their own way, care more for themselves than they do their other half and their children. To have a godly marriage, spouses must die to themselves. Men nearly always initiate the selfish cycle, and their wives, from self-defense, almost inevitably follow.

The most amazing situations are those in which the women refuse to follow a bad example and maintain their focus on honoring God with every thought, word, and deed. These women, in the face of oppression and abuse and neglect, continue to show respect for their husbands. It is supernatural. Their reward in heaven will be great.

Pastor Zach, I did a quick theological study of "traveling" and hope that this will help you and Julie. The lessons are clear!
------------------

Exo 13:21 And the LORD was going before them in a pillar of cloud by day to lead them on the way, and in a pillar of fire by night to give them light, that they might travel by day and by night.
LESSON: STAY WITH THE GUIDE.

Deu 2:27 'Let me pass through your land, I will travel only on the highway; I will not turn aside to the right or to the left.
LESSON: STAY WITH THE GUIDE.

Deu 32:12 "The LORD alone guided him, And there was no foreign god with him. 13 "He made him ride on the high places of the earth, And he ate the produce of the field; And He made him suck honey from the rock, And oil from the flinty rock, 14 Curds of cows, and milk of the flock, With fat of lambs, And rams, the breed of Bashan, and goats, With the finest of the wheat-- And of the blood of grapes you drank wine.
LESSON: STAY WITH THE GUIDE AND YOU WILL EAT WELL.

Jdg 5:10 "You who ride on white donkeys, You who sit on rich carpets, And you who travel on the road--sing!
LESSON: ENJOY YOUR TRAVELS!

Isa 35:8 And a highway will be there, a roadway, And it will be called the Highway of Holiness. The unclean will not travel on it, But it will be for him who walks that way, And fools will not wander on it. 9 No lion shall be there, nor shall any ravenous beast come up on it; they shall not be found there, but the redeemed shall walk there. 10 And the ransomed of the LORD shall return and come to Zion with singing; everlasting joy shall be upon their heads; they shall obtain gladness and joy, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.
LESSON: YOU WILL LOVE VISITING JERUSALEM!

Isa 58:14 then you shall take delight in the LORD, and I will make you ride on the heights of the earth; I will feed you with the heritage of Jacob your father, for the mouth of the LORD has spoken."
LESSON: YOU WILL LOVE LEARNING THE HISTORY OF THESE PLACES!

Heb 11:9 By faith he went to live in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, heirs with him of the same promise. 10 For he was looking forward to the city that has foundations, whose designer and builder is God.
LESSON: YOU WILL LOVE VISITING JERUSALEM AND THE LAND OF ISAAC AND JACOB!

Pastor, such true words. When Jeremy and I were living in Japan...this was the absolute norm among Japanese Christians and our church. In fact, after church, they would clear the chairs and have lunch together--total time for being at church in the morning from service to lunch: 4 hours! They helped each other if someone had a need such a groceries, supplies, etc. They laughed and cried together...a true community...I too believe this is what God calls His church too.

I remember what you said about music being more about "my Christian life" and its true..thats why Casting Crowns was such a breath of fresh air..they speak to the body where most Christian music speaks to the individual.

Thanks so much for your words and have a blessed day :)

Pastor,
I have recent personal experience with rebuking a demon and it appears to have made a great and rapid difference. I did so after your recent teaching on the subject. Thank you! It was a case of unusual intensity that made me suspect a demon and caused me to rebuke it in full faith that the power of Jesus' name would be effective. Until now I have had the mistaken idea that I should pray to God and let Him deal with Satan and his demons. In Christ, we are far stronger than we know.

I watched the full episode online and as expected it was not true to scripture. At the same time it was a good story and well produced.

Zach,

I don't think that we can get it down here in the Shoals. I would love to have heard it, though. Are you guys coming to the TCC?

Were you able to listen to the broadcast? If not I can try to get a CD of our discussion sent to you. I should have called and asked you to call in. I would have enjoyed hearing your thoughts.

Splitting a church over music styles is indicative of not getting to the root issue. There are so many more foundational issues with church music that must be addressed before style even should enter the discussion. I'm not saying that style doesn't matter, it just must be dealt with only after theological issues (as well as others) have been.

It saddens me that so many arrive ill prepared to worship our God on Sunday morning, myself included. I linger a little too long over my breakfast or morning reading. . .then trying to get two young children and myself to church on time usually leaves me frazzled. When I come into the sanctuary, I'm usually more concerned with reading the bulletin than I am with preparing myself to worship. Thank you for reminding me that God deserves far more than I have been giving. . .
