Major Lessons of 2008 – Friendship Evangelism

Most of the things that really become life changing moments for me are entirely unscripted. One was a parenthetical statement made by Pastor Tim Keller while he was making a totally different point. Dr. Keller said, “Well ya know – you will be about as good at evangelism as you are a friendship”.

IGNITE Student Crusade

Last night was first of the two night – IGNITE Student Crusade in Lawrenceburg, TN. I spent the first nine years of my ministry doing this sort of event on a weekly basis. I got up at 4:30AM to travel to Summertown High School and speak a group of students at an FCA rally. A local Pro baseball player spoke at several other schools. At 6PM that night I arrived at the Crockett Theater for sound checks, Pizza and preparation for the event. As is always the case at this sort of thing, I had no idea what to preach. God only knows if the crowd will be filled with kids who are lost or saved. By the time I am to speak I always have a gut feeling of what I am to say, and I have learned to go with it.

Excitement is Contagious
