An Afternoon @ The Rock

Yesterday I had the privilege of spending a couple of hours with Rusty Nelson, the founding Pastor of the Rock Family Worship Center in Huntsville, AL. The Rock averages somewhere between 2500-3000 in weekend attendance between all of its campuses making it one of the largest ministries in North Alabama.

Key Dates that Changed my Life

Men are made over time, little things, daily habits make all the difference. But there are a few days that define who we are, that set our course in life. Here are a few of mine, read through them then consider what key events brought you to where you are now.

Signs, signs, everywhere are signs

Tim Spurgeon designed us (Capshaw) this great looking billboard that will soon be posted on HWY 72 at the end of Dupree-Worthy road. The sign is not only in keeping with our brand, but it also communicates our vision for ministry – to be a place where you can grow to your maximum potential in Christ. It should go up in less than a week just in time for the back to school/back to church rush. Let’s pray that we will not be guilt of false advertisement, but that we truly will be a Church that challenges people to press on toward the mark of the high calling in Christ Jesus.

What is Tennessee Valley Culture?

The Tennessee Valley is the only place I know of where you are just as likely to hear someone passionately discussing their love for quilting and canning as you are to hear someone passionately debating various options for National missile defense.

Vision for Capshaw

My friend and former Pastor Tim Anderson used to say, “If you don’t see it before you see it, you will never see it”. Tim is one of the most visionary Pastors I have had the priveldge of knowing. He taught me well to keep a clear and compelling vision for the Church constantly before myself and those I lead. For nearly four years I have been seeking to comprehend and communicate the vision that I believe God has placed in my heart for His Church. Please understand, this is nothing new or innovative – I am convinced it is 2,000 years old. For me however, it is finally making sence.
