I almost stepped on a mother killdeer today when as I left a local restaurant. The small bird threatened me with a posture of attack. She screeched at the top of her tiny lungs. Sensing her dare, I moved a foot toward her until finally she relented and moved aside. Beneath her I noticed three small eggs. At that point another killdeer came up, again with a threatening posture. The first bird had flown a few feet away – playing as if she had been wounded. The two worked together as if they believed within those tiny eggs there was LIFE – not just the potential of life, but actual life! They placed their life at great risk on behalf of the tiny lives within those eggs.
We who believe in the sanctity of life think that those who perform or request abortions animalistic. Perhaps we have
thought to little of the animal kingdom. It seems these two representatives thought more of life in the egg than they did the lives outside.
