Deacon’s Retreat – the VISION

I am pumped about spending this weekend with our deacon’s at Capshaw. This will be a great opportunity to talk about where we are going as a Church family. I am convinced that the local Church is the hope of the world because we are the keepers of the great commission. There is nothing that I would rather pour my life into.

A Responce to the Feeling of Thankfulness

I fail at times, but I try to always express any visceral feelings of gratefulness that I have toward God and others. I am absolutely convinced that thankfulness is the healthiest and most rewarding of all Christian attitudes. Too often we only give attention to it around the end of November. It is very important to give outward expression to any inward feelings of gratitude.

Today I had that gut feeling of thankfulness as I walked into my office at Capshaw. I walked in out of the cold rain into an environment that was warm and dry. Here are a few ways that the Church at Capshaw has allowed me to create a working environment that suits me far better than I deserve:

• I hate florescent lights because they give me a headache. Capshaw allowed me to pick out a couple of nice lamps that together with the sunlight through my office window make the glow of my computer screen bearable.
• I am surrounded with any book I need to adequately study and rightly divide the Word of God.
• I am currently typing on a really cool computer that is fast, reliable and holds a ton of information.
• There are a couple of custodians (June and Nub) who bring me a diet Sundrop on a regular basis just because they love their Pastor.
• I have an incredible staff that are not only incredibly gifted, but are also dear friends and a joy to work with.

I’m sure I could type on all day as my mind drifts to my family, my home, my health, etc. But the fact it I walked into my office and my heart rose in thankfulness to God and I felt like I needed to express that. So as you read this blog entry know that there is a guy in the Tennessee Valley who knows he is blessed far more than he deserves.

Today’s Maximum Life Live

Today at 1PM on Maximum Life Live (ProTalkRadio.com) I along with Brandon Watkins (The Worship Pastor of Capshaw Baptist Church) will be answering questions regarding style of Worship in local Churches. You know an amazing number of Churches have split over decisions regarding style of worship. Just one mile from our Church another Church has begun (split from another local congregation) primarily because of stylistic issues. There are dozens of questions to consider. We would love to answer yours – email them to maximumlifelive@gmail.com , put them in the comment section below or call in live at 256-551-9865.

Taking Questions for MML

Email your questions to maximumlifelive@gmail.com or post them below. You may also wish to call in live at 1PM CST to 256.551.9865.

Major Lessons from 2008 – Break a Sweat

was reading the “Body by Buck” blog one day when he wrote about a girl on the treadmill beside him that was chatting on her cell phone for the full 15 minutes she walked. She got off the machine grabbed her bag and left the gym. He made the point that if you can carry on a conversation while working out you aren’t working out at all. He then went on to point out how she pretty much wasted 15 minutes of her life because her workout required such little exertion. That thought really hit home with me. I have worked out irregularly since college. But most of that time I have lifted the same amount of weight, challenging myself very little. I thought it was fine because at least I was in the gym – that’s better than a lot of guys. I guess I thought the atmosphere would affect my physique in some way. In 2009 I am really training hard. I normally break a sweat within the first 5-8 minutes and really feel the effects the following day…
