Notes from the Road

I have just returned from a week in North Carolina with Curtis Pixler and the Union Baptist Church. We had a great revival! About Tuesday night it seemed that God began to break hearts and call people to repentance. Publicly and privately people were confessing their sin and distance from God. It was a beautiful thing to see. One man who was called upon to pray over the offering began to confess sins and ask God, his family and his Church to forgive him. What a humbling thing that was to hear.

The road between Alabama and North Carolina is some of God’s prime real estate. We drove slower than normal and took the time to see a few sights along the way. On the way up we stopped by the Biltmore Mansion in Ashville, NC. Hundreds of people were touring the former home of travel mogul George Vanderbilt. The home was a great setting to shoot a few photos of the family. We had the kids wear their outfits for the Christmas pictures and took advantage of the scenery.

Cole at Virginia BeachWe took a day and made a quick trip to Virginia Beach and ate some raw seafood, which may explain why Julie was sick for the last couple of days of the trip.

One the way home we drove through the Nantahala National Park and saw fall in full blast. As majestic as the Vanderbilt mansion was, nothing compares to God’s creation and all its beauty.

We stopped by the Ocoee River and made a few photos.

In Chattanooga I took a nap and let Julie drive for a while. The GPS wasn’t aware that Highway 72 was the quickest route home so when I woke up we were somewhere near Sewanne, TN. I never knew there was a Sewanne, TN, but seriously this is the coolest little town. Apparently, it has a couple of colleges and a view of the Tennessee Valley that would take your breath away.

It was a great trip, but I am so glad to be home. At the end of the day I’m a hometown boy at heart. There is no place on earth I’d rather be right now than behind my desk at the Capshaw Baptist Church.
