Responding to God’s Whistle

As a young boy I began working with dogs, Labrador retrievers to be exact. I took classes through the local kennel club in dog training. Then I began to train my dog, Jake. I became pretty good at it and Jake was a great dog to train. But I made one mistake. I trained Jake with voice commands. He got so accustomed to my voice that he wouldn’t work as well with any other handler. Later I discovered that it was better to train animals with a whistle. That way, no matter who uses the whistle the animal will respond the same – to the whistle not the trainer.

As I consider the future for Lancaster Baptist and pray for their next Pastor, I am reminded of the awkwardness of following and learning from a new Pastor. One thing I have worked very hard to do is bring Lancaster Baptist the book, week after week. My hope in leaving is that under my watch they have continued to be taught the Word as others taught them before me. Now my prayer is, no matter who preaches, so long as he preaches the Book faithfully, they will respond.

  1. I will be praying for your transition. I know these are though decisions.

  2. Lancaster Baptist will be OK Brother Zach. God will provide us with a Pastor to continue bringing us His message and helping us grow in faith and reach others. You and your next church family will be in my prayers. Change is always difficult – but it provides for time to re-evalutate goals.

  3. I hate change Zach, but I am excited about God’s call for you. It feels right and I have a real peace about this transition. I have always asked God for what I felt that I or the church needed and have often waited with baited breath for His response. I know with all my heart that He has great plans for us and for you, and am waiting once again with baited breath for His next move. Isn’t life as a Christian awesome!!!!
